Commonwealth Journal is a production of Boston National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate WUMB-FM owned by and broadcast from the University of Massachusetts Boston. The talk show can be heard weekly on Sundays at 7 p.m. on the WUMB Public Radio Network of six radio stations and 28 other commercial and non-commercial radio stations across Massachusetts. Each program is typically comprised of one 29-minute segment.

The program is distributed free of charge to radio stations across Massachusetts. Commonwealth Journal reaches all 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts. More than 30,000 people listen to the show each week. A webcast of WUMB's signal can also be heard around the world through the internet, and we currently have listeners in all 50 states and in 103 countries.

History of the Show

The show has been on the air since March, 2000 as a weekly radio talk show. Over the past eleven years, Commonwealth Journal has produced more than 500 talk segments with nearly 700 different guests. It originally began airing in 1987. Production was suspended in 1992, due to lack of funding, until 1999 when WUMB Radio partnered with the Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities. Since 2008, the University of Massachusetts Boston has supported the show. Like WUMB, Commonwealth Journal is dedicated to produce, acquire, and disseminate high quality, diverse and valued public service radio programming.
